Less than an Hour to Nether

In the Nether

I was inspired by AngelaManchee's Speeding to the Nether Experiment and I wanted to see if I could do the same in under one hour. I just made it in 59 minutes, 15 seconds. I would have been faster if I hadn't been ambushed by two skeletons towards the very end.

This is how my new Survival mode game started. I am staring at at tree. I guess that is as good a start as any because I needed wood immediately!

When I looked around, there were trees everywhere!

Within a very short time, I had my first set of wood tools completely crafted and was ready to start digging deep down into the ground.

It wasn't too much later than that when I got lucky and found some coal. I used this along with the sticks I crafted from the wood to assemble plenty of torches. I also upgraded my pick to a stone pick. The next step: search for some iron!

I did find a lot of iron alongside my staircase tunnel, and upgraded my pick to Iron for faster digging and because once I found Diamonds, I would need one. I had enough iron left over to craft some armor in case I ran into any zombies, skeletons, or other nasty mobs down there.

Near the bottom, I found a large, open cavern.

There is a little light off to the left, which means I must be near some lava. I'll need that, along with water, to make Obsidian. But first, I need to find Diamonds so that I can craft a Diamond Pick to mine the Obsidian.

There you are, my precious!

I wasn't having any luck finding water in my tunnel or in the open cavern and time was running short, so I crafted some buckets from iron and headed back to the surface in search of a pond or river. Lucky for me, it was daylight and I found a body of water quickly.

I filled up my buckets and headed back to the lava below to mix it with the water I had just collected and create Obsidian.

I mined the minimum of 10 Obsidian and then went back above ground to craft my portal. This is where I ran into a few skeletons. I fought them off, but they did a number on my health. Good thing I had an apple to eat between fights.

Day began to break and rain started to fall. But it is Nether time! I used my Flint and Steel (which I crafted with the remaining iron and some flint I found from shoveling gravel down in the cavern) to activate the portal.

I checked my stopwatch and I still had 45 seconds to spare!

That was fun to attempt, and it was exciting to complete just under my deadline of one hour.
